Burnin' Bridges is a Contemporary Jazz quartet, performing in Coastal North and South Carolina. The band performs smooth and groove-based instrumentals, featuring skilled improvisation and a cohesive, tight sound. Each band member is a master at their instrument with years of experience. Burnin' Bridges has returned to the stage after a lengthy hiatus and now has an exciting new rhythm section. Welcome to Patrick Pfeiffer on bass and Cliff Hackford on drums.
Dave Maffris is a pianist, composer and producer living and working in the Southeast Coastal Carolinas since 2017. Dave began studying classical piano at age 6, including private studies at Northwestern University School of Music. Inspired by the Beatles at age 13, Dave began performing pop music, and began his professional career at age 14. performing both as a singer/songwriter and keyboardist both solo and in many bands, specializing since the 80's in jazz. Dave has released four smooth jazz CD's: Dreamer (2010), Seasons (2012), Moods (2014), and I Can (2019). Dave's many musical influences include Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Herbie, Hancock, Jeff Lorber, Joe Sample, Bob James, Russ Ferrante, Bruce Hornsby, Lyle Mays, and others from many different genres.
In addition to his work with Burnin' Bridges, Dave performs jazz piano at many restaurants and other venues in the Carolinas, and owns and operates @theShedNC recording studio in Calabash, NC, where he also produces other artists. His most recent work , released in 2019, has Dave serving as producer, arranger, composer and session musician for the CD "Point of View," featuring CBMA Hall of Fame trumpet player Keith Stone. Dave has recently started composing music for film and television.
Cliff has been playing professionally since the age of 15. He studied with jazz great Elvin Jones and tabla master Samir Chatterjee.
Some of the artists he has played/recorded with are Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, Matt Guitar Murphy, AK-47, Cadillacmoon, Vicki Sue Robinson, Fullhand, the Drifters, Clark Terry, the Shirelles, Ken Booth, Marcia Griffith, Al Anderson, Arlen Roth , the Coasters, the marvelettes , the Chiffons, tabla with Digambar Gadekar , Indro Chaudory , Krishna Shulka Kant, Abijet Mungergee , Sonic Bliss Kirtan, Satya Franc, Robert Een and many more artist covering many different styles of music.
Cliff works as an in demand music producer and session musician. He owns and operates Parkhillrecording.com, a full service recording studio located in Myrtle Beach SC.
Patrick Pfeiffer is a professional bassist, composer, clinician, author and bass educator in Wilmington, NC. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in music from Arizona State University, and his Master’s in jazz studies (with distinction) from the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music. Pfeiffer’s solo CD Fruits and Nuts earned stellar reviews and a recommendation from Bass Player Magazine as well as Jazz Improv Magazine. Besides performing and recording, Pfeiffer teaches bass guitar worldwide via Skype and Zoom and gives clinics on rhythm section playing for bassists and drummers throughout the US. He is co-founder of Bass Immersion Day and conducts clinics alongside such luminaries as Will Lee, John Patitucci, Gerald Veasley, Michael Manring, Victor Wooten, Bakithi Kumalo, Adam Nitti and many more. Pfeiffer also has a regular column in Bass Magazine.
Bill Kerr learned to play the guitar at the age of seven and began playing professionally at the age of twelve. After high school, Bill studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and later received a music degree from the University of Denver. Bill’s primary music influences include Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Al Di Meola, John Scofield and Allan Holdsworth.
Bill has the ability to cross between genres with ease and brings with him an extensive background in the music industry. Over his career he has played with numerous rock, country, funk and jazz bands in Denver, Colorado. Bill also owned and operated Kerr/Macy Music Group, one of Denver’s top recording studios, during the 90’s.
Since moving to North Carolina in 2016, Bill has been given numerous opportunities to play as a solo jazz artist in many of the finer restaurants in Wilmington. He also founded the fusion jazz band “Burnin’ Bridges” which has consistently received enthusiastic praise and support from audiences.
